A charming new establishment has opened its doors in Chiang Mai.One of the new breed of boutique hotels, each more interesting than the last, this one of course comes with its own unique design. There must be twenty or more which have popped up in the last six months. You might come across one yourself one day, going down an interesting new street, and finding yourself in front of some quaint addition to the cultural scene. Themes vary from Arabian nights to posh Euro, through stately digs, to Lanna contemporary. Anything goes, seems to be the key, as long as it’s unique and speaks its style boldly. Therefore amazing design colour stories abound from muted taupe and bamboo, to posh reds and sophisticates. Each one tries to create the ideal home away from home. It’s a fascinating journey to see the ‘internationalization’ of interior design ideas filling this city at the moment
White Chalet Bed ‘n Breakfast is part of this new trend.Situated near the northwestern corner of the old city on Sriphoum Road , it fronts the moat and has a fine view of Doi Suthep. The establishment forms a u-shape with rooms on two sides and the bakery/restaurant making up the third.he middle is taken up with a squared concrete lotus fountain. The outside walls and Lanna-style roof are in different shades of white. The impression is one of great peace and tranquility. |
“The rooms are so snug and cozy.
When morning time calls and you find yourself puckish,
follow the scent of fresh baked bread to the bakery.”

All the rooms are simple and efficient. The three different layouts are all designed like some cruise cabin aboard a transatlantic liner of old. They come with built-in fittings of bleached pine and bamboo. The TV is state of the art. There is also a cable plug-in for your laptop. The bathrooms are tiny marvels of salmon tiles and chrome.Try out the bed and you’ll want to sleep for days. The rooms are so snug and cozy. When morning time calls and you find yourself puckish, follow the scent of fresh baked bread to the bakery.
The hotel is conveniently located for easy access to outlying areas of the city.Whether your destination is Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, sylvan hills and countryside, or any one of the interesting craft centers scattered around the city, White Chalet B ‘n B offers you a convenient starting point. Should you want to explore the inner city, you couldn’t be better located. You’re just a few minutes’ walk from some of Lanna’s finest and most famous temples.

If you’re there on a Sunday, a short hike further along gets you to Walking Street , Chiang Mai’s most happening scene.Streets are lined with stalls filled with all sorts of crafts and home items. There are also food areas, venues for foot massage as well as live music and performance every 100 meters .
Once you’ve had your fill, come back and take a rest.Have a late afternoon tea in the small garden.Watching the sunset slowly behind Doi Suthep, you can relax once more in your home away from home, confident and snug in your own little bit of heaven.
